When We Left Our 15 year old in Charge.
Updated: Feb 22, 2019
This weekend was a huge step forward for our family.
We trusted our almost 15 year old to be in charge of her almost 13 and almost 11 year old siblings for 24 hours. We were only two hours away and we had friends watching over, but our daughter did not know. We were also checking our inside camera every hour or two.
However, we did have some surprises.
Our younger two kids seemed to gain more respect for their older sibling. They reported that she was asking them if they were hungry and fixing them food. She kept their world spinning just as if we were both here.
They all seemed to enjoy being able to watch tv as much as they wanted and just relax. They slept in their own beds and didn't have to give up any of their comforts of home.
Another surprise was our oldest seemed to appreciate us as parents more. She was definitely able to handle taking care of everything, but she seemed to like the idea of not having to come up with dinner ideas.
She also seemed to act more mature.
Or maybe this is just how I see her now.
We were so worried before we left, but the kids were looking forward to the experience so we didn't cancel. We are so grateful now that we went because we got away from family drama and just relaxed for the weekend.
The bottom line is raise them right and do it early.
Then by the time they are 15 years old they are old enough to be left alone and you know what to expect from them.
Then you get to feel thankful for the new world that is in front of you and your spouse.
